Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons is an American contemporary artist whose work explores popular culture, consumerism, desire, beauty and the relationship between art and everyday life. Born in York, Pennsylvania, in 1955, Koons studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before moving to New York, where he established his career in the 1980s.

Known for transforming familiar objects and images into highly refined works of art, Koons works across sculpture, painting and installation. His practice draws inspiration from advertising, childhood, popular entertainment, consumer goods and art history, often combining playful imagery with a meticulous, highly polished aesthetic.

Koons is regarded as one of the most influential artists of his generation. His work has been exhibited extensively at major museums and galleries around the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou, Museo Guggenheim Bilbao and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
