Marit Bostad Geraldine
Marit Geraldine Bostad (b. 1976) is a Norwegian contemporary abstract artist whose vibrant paintings explore the inner psyche, memory and human interaction. Based in Horten, Norway, Bostad developed her practice from a background in art direction, moving into painting full-time in 2009.
Bostad’s paintings are created through an intuitive and physical process, with acrylic paint poured directly onto the canvas and manipulated using a variety of tools rather than traditional brushwork. Her distinctive approach to Nordic colour theory combines soft, tonal pastels with unexpected flashes of fluorescent colour, creating richly layered and emotionally charged compositions.
Her work has been exhibited internationally across London, Oslo, New York, Los Angeles, Dubai and Paris, including presentations at The Other Art Fair and major exhibitions in Norway. In 2017, Saatchi Art’s Chief Curator Rebecca Wilson selected Bostad as one of her “4 Must-See Artists” at The Other Art Fair in London. She was also shortlisted for the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize in 2020.
Bostad’s work invites the viewer to move beyond literal interpretation, using colour, gesture and abstraction to create a space where personal experience and universal emotion can coexist. Her paintings are characterised by their energy, luminosity and emotional depth, establishing a distinctive voice within contemporary abstract painting.
