Connor Brothers

The Connor Brothers are the collaborative British artists James Golding and Mike Snelle, whose distinctive practice combines vintage imagery, popular culture and sharp, often humorous text to explore truth, fiction and contemporary society.

The duo came to prominence in 2012, initially presenting themselves through an elaborate fictional identity as American brothers. Their work quickly attracted attention for its clever reinterpretation of vintage paperback covers and pulp-fiction imagery, pairing nostalgic visuals with unexpected quotations and contemporary observations. Their identities were revealed in 2014, adding another layer to an artistic practice fundamentally concerned with the blurred boundaries between fact and fiction.

Best known for their Pulp Fiction works, The Connor Brothers combine graphic imagery, bold colour and wit to examine subjects including relationships, identity, fame, mental health and society’s fascination with appearance and reality. Their practice has also extended into painting, collage, sculpture and socially engaged projects.

The Connor Brothers have exhibited internationally across London, New York, Sydney, Dubai, Hong Kong and Berlin, with solo exhibitions including Mythomania at Maddox Gallery, London, and Extraordinary People in Aspen. Their work has featured at major auction houses including Christie’s, Bonhams and Phillips, and is held in significant collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Penguin Collection, and the Omer Koç and Niarchos collections.

Continuing to combine visual sophistication with humour and social commentary, The Connor Brothers have established a highly recognisable position within contemporary British art.
