Everlyn Tannus

Evelyn Tannus is a Brazilian contemporary ceramic artist based in São Paulo, whose distinctive practice combines sculpture, painting and illustration. A graduate in Plastic Arts from the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP), Tannus began her artistic career in 2002 and has developed a highly recognisable visual language inspired by tattoo culture, mythology, religion, popular imagery and Brazilian culture.

Working primarily with porcelain and ceramic, Tannus transforms familiar forms — from hands and animals to vessels and figurative sculptures — into richly decorated surfaces. Her pieces are often described as being “tattooed”, with intricate imagery and symbols applied directly to the ceramic as though the objects themselves possess a skin and personal history. Her work brings together the sacred and the profane, combining humour, mysticism and symbolism with a contemporary sensibility.

Tannus has exhibited extensively in Brazil and internationally, with her work presented at Design Week in Milan and Maison & Objet in Paris, as well as in galleries and collections across London, New York and San Diego. She was selected for the 14th Salão de Arte do MAM de Salvador, and her work has been featured in international design and ceramics publications, including the book Art of Ceramics.

Her sculptures occupy a space between contemporary art, design and traditional craftsmanship, creating objects that are playful, provocative and deeply rooted in visual storytelling.
