Magnus Gjoen

Magnus Gjoen is a London-born contemporary artist of Norwegian heritage whose practice brings together fine art, street and pop-art influences, often transforming historical imagery and powerful objects into works that explore beauty, fragility and contradiction. Born in London and raised between Switzerland, Denmark, Italy and the UK, Gjoen studied design in London and Milan before pursuing a successful career in fashion, including work with Vivienne Westwood.

Gjoen’s work draws extensively on art history, reinterpreting Old Master imagery and culturally significant objects through a contemporary visual language. His practice frequently explores the relationship between beauty and destruction, power and fragility, life and death, creating works that challenge the viewer’s initial perception of familiar subjects.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in London, Bergen, Oslo, Los Angeles and Dubai, alongside presentations at Saatchi Gallery and major international art fairs. His work is held in permanent collections including the Haifa Museum of Art and the Daimler Collection.

Gjoen continues to develop a distinctive practice that bridges contemporary art, design and popular culture, combining sophisticated imagery with unexpected juxtapositions and a strong sense of visual narrative.
